Sample Lesson - 2s

Currently in the 2s classes, the teachers seek to provide the children with opportunities to be in command both of the smaller worlds that they create, and of the larger ones that they inhabit personally through dramatic play.  Through these explorations they are gaining autonomy and working on mastery of materials.  We are providing natural and earth-related materials that allow them to transform the space in myriad ways.

Building on the previous exploration of water, we added some dry earth into the mix in the dramatic play area, offering cooking utensils as part of the experience.

We also read Where The Wild Things Are. In this story, Max travels from his room over water to amagical forest where wild creatures roam.

Then we added an earth box to our room, with diggers and other surprises hiding in the dirt. This is to allow the children to connect with the earth directly, and to experiment with it.
