Pre-Primary Program: 2s, 3s, and 4s

Our Pre-Primary Program is designed for children aged two, three, and four and is, as are all Blue School programs, based upon developmental research, theory and practice for this specific age range. It builds strong partnerships between the school, children and families that continue as the children grow within our community. Parents are encouraged to participate in the classroom by sharing unique interests and skills, assisting in specialty areas such as music and art, serving as guest story tellers, and helping with classroom activities such as book groups, cooking projects, and playground trips. Each classroom environment incorporates developmentally appropriate materials, practices, and interactive stations that encourage play, exploration, creativity, imagination, and learning.

Within these contexts, children use social interaction to develop and acquire control over their everyday world, establish a sense of trust, and begin to reach a comfortable level of self-confidence, independence, and autonomy. Teachers foster peer relationships that support and scaffold learning and encourage the development of social skills such as collaboration and turn-taking. This takes place in conjunction with the development of physical, language, and cognitive skills embedded in activities such as morning meeting, block building, visual, or performance arts, story telling, and dramatic play.

Please note:  the 2s program is parent- or caregiver-attended and is NOT a drop-off program.
